Mr x Lucien Pellat-Finet

In high school, while working at Barneys, I would have never admitted how seriously drawn to LPF I was. How could you not be? The sweaters alone cost as much as some Prada trousers, if not the whole suit! So, why? Besides the mysterious ratio between wackiness and price, each sweater is made by hand of cashmere. This means that for every color used in the knit, the weaver must change his entire spool which obviously draws out the process quite a bit. For this collaboration, LPF have teamed up with Mr, a protege of Murakami for a wacky, unique look at the classic LPF style. Check it out.

Sorry for the Delay

After a 2 hour delay, I returned to Chicago in it's too-usual grey state. It's so rainy here and I'm ready for clear skies. Anyway, I was just checking out my usual blogs and wanted to link to this. It's from Stuff White People Like and it's pretty friggin' hilar. I love this blog because it completely ditches stereotypical white things and instead nails the Young Urban Professional and Hipster sets perfectly- multilingual children, asians, and now hating Ed Hardy

Ay!

So, after a longer-than-intended break from teh blogoshphere, I am back. Somehow, I managed to make it back to Dallas without my computer charger or information about studying abroad- probably the only two things I actually needed to bring. Oh well, Sarah lent me her charger! Also, I finally committed the time/energy to going to Ikea and getting furniture for my apartment. I ended up getting some pretty basic, cool stuff. Thanks to my current living situation, storage became important for the first time in my life. I got a 4x4 shelving/desk unit in black/white and i'll surely upload a picture when I'm in my apartment.

Sonically, my last few days have been filled with Dirty Projectors. Bitte Orca, if you haven't heard it, is ridiculously great. This venture, the Projectors find themselves experimenting with the sound they developed on Rise Above. Of course the chaotic harmonies and guitar are present, but this album sees the band playing with synth and rhythmn like never before. With the addition of a second female vocalist, the band's overall sound has gained an ALMOST gospel vibe. "Cannibal Resource" and "Temecula Sunrise" are the first two tracks and begin the album with a guitar-based, upbeat sound. "Stillness is the Move" is the band's choice for lead single, and not a bad one at that. Though David is vocally absent from the song, his sitar-like guitar juxtaposes the Mariah-esque singing of Angel and Amber in a way that only the Projectors can achieve. To me, the album actually kicks in after what is personally my least favorite song on the album, "2 Doves." "Useful Chamber," on the other hand, could be my favorite song this band's produced yet. Immediately, ever-present synths carry you into a dreamy, dance stage that leads you to the crashing guitars DP are synonymous with. To me, this is the peak of what Dirty Projectors are- too angry to seem reclusive, and too pretty to ACTUALLY sound dirty.  Though this album isn't for everyone, I absolutely recommend you give "Stillness is the Move" a chance- it's absolutely one of the most interesting songs I've heard.

Panda Bear

Panda Bear's remix of the song "Boneless" is seriously so good. Even though it came out last year, I still find myself listening to it daily. I've listened to the Notwist version and, sadly, it doesn't compare.The link below is to some bogan fan video, that I actually love. Whoever made it did a really fantastic job of editing crappy video to look really interesting. 

Oh, and if you've listened to Person Pitch, but haven't heard the samples he used, I urge you to click below. It solidifies his "genius" status IMO.

(Kill) Surf City

Surf City- "Headin' Inside"

Surf City are a New Zealand-based band who draw from Dick Dale, The Strokes, and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Their uptempo surf sound is perfect for lakeside strolls on a 30 degree April day, but I'm sure as Chicago thaws out their sound will only get more enjoyable. "Headin' Inside" is a poppy gem that will surely get stuck in your face.

Mi Ami

Mi Ami- 'New Guitar'

Mi Ami is a San Francisco-based spastic disco punk band that, not surprisingly, contains two ex-Black Eyes members and expands on Black Eye's sound. Percussion heavy and full of energy, the song 'New Guitar' embodies their sound well. Plus, any band who sings about 2008 is alright with me.

So, in the blog world I'm 3 years too late on these bad boys, but here in IRL land I'm just now seeing them show up in stores. Is it so bad to feel like I really need these Jeremy Scott x Adidas? I don't think so. While the winged model might be a bit much (I would get the tips sooooo muddy with it), I think that having a tongue extend half-way up your shin is totally acceptable, especially if it's adorned with an oversized trefoil. Maybe my roommates right, maybe I am just a little fanboy in this huge, empty blogosphere. Either way, I feel like my life would have more meaning with these on my feet/legs.
